Zingiber officinale

Ginger is a miraculous root, native to Southwest Asia, specifically from China and parts of India. It grows in almost any tropical climate resulting in its wide expansion.

This plant is well known within traditional Chinese medicine (known as Jiang, meaning ‘defender’). It is considered a plant that defends the body from moisture and cold. It also acts as a natural anti-inflammatory and helps fight respiratory diseases.

Volatile oils are responsible for the pharmacological effects of ginger as well as its characteristic smell and taste. The main active components are zingiberene and bisabolene, while the more pungent components - phenolic substances - are known as gingerols, shogaols, and gingerons.

It also contains phenolic substances (known as gingerols, shogaols and gingerons), proteolytic enzymes, linoleic acid, Vitamins (especially Vitamins B6 and C) and minerals (calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium).
